Tomato Onion Chutney

I used to love this chutney as a child. My mother made these always and with a paper crisp dosa, need I say anything more?…Bliss! Over the years I have made this many times over, for family and friends and  I’m yet to find a person who did not like it…Go ahead try this one…you won’t be disappointed.

Ingredients (4-5 People)

Onion – 3 Nos ( medium sized, red) or 2 Big
Tomato – 2 Nos (medium to big sized)
Ulad dal – 1 tbsp
Dry red chilli – 4 nos
Optional
Grated coconut – 1 or 2 tbsp

Method
Put oil (2 tbsps) in the kadai and fry the ulad daal & dry chillis till golden brown and set it aside.
In very little oil, saute the onion and tomato  till they are wilted. Allow the mixture to cool. When cooled, add all the above STUFF together and grind till required  consistency. Add salt to taste.

Tips
1. 4 Red chillies – Medium Spicy (thai terminology for all the thai food lovers)
2. Coconut can be used to manage the level of spice (a.k.a heat) and volume (more = more chutney)
