Green papaya chutney

Another gujarati cuisine experiment I did was making the Green papaya chutney. It is normally had with khaman, papdi, fafda. Simple easy recipe is here as follows


1 small raw papaya peeled and coarsely grated
4 – 5 green chillies slit
1\4 tsp each cumin & mustard seeds
2 pinches asafoetida
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp coriander finely chopped
1 tsp oil
Salt to taste


Heat oil, add cumin & mustard seeds, allow to splutter and then add asafoetida. Add green chillies, stir, add papaya. Add all other ingredients, mix well, remove from fire. Cool and serve with fafda, khaman or papdi.
